Country music singer-songwriter Vince Gill and steel guitarist Paul Franklin teamed up to pay tribute to the traditional Bakersfield style of country music in their album release, aptly titled, “Bakersfield”.
With a history of playing together as part of the Time Jumpers, Gill and Frankin were inspired to feature music that inspired them while they were learning to play their own instruments. Their hope is to take the pedal steels and electric guitar sounds and show country music fans that there is more to ‘country’ than what the popularized Nashville sound offers, which relies heavily on hollow guitars and a pop influence. With heavy inspiration from legends Merle Haggard and Buck Owens, the Bakersfield sound in “Bakersfield” also aims to re-introduce country music to contemporary fans.
